About Me

Hi! My name is Megan Leigh Mason, born and raised in sunny Eastbourne. I now live in South East London, with my boyfriend Danny. Apart from being a complete foodie, I’m also an Actor, Musician and a Singer-Songwriter. (If you’re interested in listening to my music, you can find the links at the bottom of this page). If I can, I like to bring all these strands together, for example I recently shot a new music video in the theatre I was working in and payed the crew with vegan cakes!

If you hadn’t already gathered, I am passionate about food. If I am not eating it or talking about it, I am probably planning my next meal or falling asleep at night deciding what I’ll eat for breakfast in the morning. Lately I’ve been trying to get into more baking and am loving it and can’t wait to share some of the gems I’ve discovered with you here. Turning vegan has kick started my obsession with food and health and I am planning on doing a course in nutrition in the near future.

I love to travel to new places and I dream of travelling the world, all the while finding the best vegan food wherever I go. I hope that this will be a growing feature of the blog!

My Journey To Veganism

I turned Vegetarian when I was 14. I always loved animals and wasn’t fussed about eating meat so cutting it out seemed an obvious choice to me (I think frequent viewings of the film ‘Chicken Run’ may also have had something to do with it!). I remained a vegetarian throughout my teens and into my early 20’s until, like so many newly converted vegans, I stumbled upon the documentary ‘Cowspiracy’ on Netflix. It opened my eyes up to the horrors that have been happening right under our nose for generations. I wanted to turn vegan overnight.

Before diving headfirst in, I thought it was right to do some research on the nutritional side of becoming vegan and I quickly learnt that you can not only live healthily but can totally thrive on a vegan diet! So I started buying cookbooks, watched more documentaries and started experimenting in the kitchen. Before long I was 100% sure a plant-based / cruelty free life was the only way I wanted to live.

Along with my boyfriend, we started making the changes to casually turn vegan, starting with milk and cheese swaps and eventually removing eggs and honey from our diet too.

As well as the horrendous mistreatment of animals, the environmental impact of the meat and dairy industry was something that made the decision seem like a no brainer, especially as I’m a bit of an eco warrior myself.

So I guess I turned vegan for all the reasons really. To stand up to animal cruelty, to improve my health and to do something that is much more environmentally friendly.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy my blog!
